A new report by ABI Research confirms the growing role of Big Data in machine-to-machine (M2M) communications and the Internet of Things (IoT), with the analysis firm forecasting that integrating, storing, analyzing, and presenting IoT data will reach $5.7 billion in 2015.

The firm says that in the next 5 years, the market will expand to such an extent that in 2020 it is estimated to account for nearly one-third of all big data and analytics revenues.

“About 60% of this year’s revenues come from three key areas: energy management, security management, as well as monitoring and status applications,” Aapo Markkanen, principal analyst at ABI Research, said in a statement. “Within these segments, we can generally find analytic applications that reduce the cost base of asset-intensive operations (condition-based maintenance), automate routine workflows (surveillance), or even enable new business models (usage-based insurance). “

Aeris offers solutions in all of these markets and is laser-focused on Big Data for its M2M/IoT solutions.

4140082In 2014, the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications market gained traction, and Aeris racked up successes on several fronts. And as we step ahead into 2015, both the IoT/M2M market and Aeris can expect continued growth.

Aeris grew the number of its IoT/M2M-connected devices from one million in 2013 to 2.4 million in 2014. By all counts, we’re on track to continue on this growth path in 2015. Industry-wide, Cisco CEO John Chambers earlier in the year forecasted that M2M/IoT will become a trillion-dollar-market.

Aeris moved forward with a series of initiatives in 2014 to continue its industry-leading position.

iStock_000001925982_MediumThis year began with a bang for the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications market when Cisco Ceo John Chambers stood up in a Consumer Electronics Show keynote in early January and proclaimed that the “Intent of Everything,” as he called it, would create a cumulative economic impact of $19 trillion dollars related to bringing intelligence to everyday objects.

“This will be bigger than anything done in high tech in a decade,” Chambers said. With that auspicious start, IoT/M2M was off to a rollicking year as businesses responded in a variety of ways to try to make Chambers’ prediction come true.

At Aeris, we grew the number of IoT/M2M-connected devices from one million in 2013 to 2.4 million in 2014. But the M2M/IoT industry as a whole didn’t progress on a linear track.

4140082There’s no denying the Internet of Things (IoT) is on a clear growth path. The influential tech media outlet, TechCrunch, attested to the fact this week in the article, “The Internet Of Things Is Reaching Escape Velocity.”

“While the Internet of Things will inevitably ride the ups and downs of inflated hype and unmet expectations, at this stage there’s no putting the genie back in the bottle,” writer Matt Turck wrote.

Turck pointed out that IoT is being pushed by technology trends, including mobility, Big Data, open source popularity, and cloud computing. There is also a buzz behind IoT, as businesses, consumers, retailers and the media are alerted to its potential.

Neo_LogoThe roll out of the Internet of Things (IoT) has not been as rapid as expected for some businesses, prompting innovative companies to step forward to facilitate the process. Noted analyst Jeff Kaplan addressed this issue recently in the article, “Building an IoT Marketplace in the Cloud,” published in SandHill.com.

Kaplan said Aeris, with its Neo online marketplace, is making it easier to obtain IoT solutions while providing the network connectivity necessary to deploy IoT services. Neo is unique, Kaplan said, for two reasons.
