Insights to the Future of IoT: An Aeris Webinar

“In any given moment, we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety.”                                                                                                                                                                                                  —Abraham Maslow

In the highly competitive IoT business world of today and tomorrow, stepping back into safety is a sure-fire way to stifle growth. But with so many technological innovations, coming at us at unprecedented speeds, how do we know when to jump in and when to wait for more clarity?

Recently, we gathered several subject matter experts for a webinar to discuss where and how IoT innovations will take place, the various sectors that will feel the impact, and the sectors that might realize the greatest growth.

Once Size Does Not Fit All

One of the first realizations of this webinar was that not all IoT use cases are the same, and not all growth patterns or expectations are the same either. For instance, participants thought that several sectors in the U.S that were primed for IoT influence differed radically from the sectors expecting growth in India. Same technology, just different needs. Levels of autonomous vehicle availability produced several timelines to reach entirely driver-less vehicles. Connectivity uses even differed. Here in the States, we might think of thousands of solar panels in an installation, while in Africa, connectivity might mean clean water or a better way to cook food for a family or village. Same technology, different scale, differing outcomes.

Dropping Hints

One of the most interesting parts of this webinar was that when pressed about major uses for future IoT, the experts covered the field, reflecting its overarching and widespread use and potential. For instance, Michelle Avary, VP Automotive, thought that in the next year, Industrial IoT will be a leading growth area. Dr. Rishi Bhatnagar, President of Aeris India, taking that country’s perspective, believed that energy advancements would be primary. Drew Johnson, VP Engineering & Operations, suggested that telematics will emerge as the fastest area of IoT expansion (but he also was enthusiastic on machine learning for IoT). And Syed “Z” Hosain, Chief Technical Officer, believed that healthcare would be the major area of IoT advancements, expanding services and lowering cost, especially in under-developed countries. Many more details and insights were presented during the course of this one-hour discussion.

Agree or disagree, these insiders provide a knowledge-based outlook for the Internet of Things. Listen in on our webinar and see how these predictions match up with your thoughts, your experiences, or your future IoT needs.
