The marketing research firm, in a report titled “M2M Connections by Services By Vertical,” found that the global market for M2M services grew to more than $16 billion in 2013, with nearly 1.7 billion M2M connections worldwide.
Infonetics forecast that the global revenue from M2M services will to expand at an 18% compound annual growth rate from 2013 to 2018.
The growth comes as businesses recognize the competitive advantages M2M services can provide. “M2M continues to gather momentum as enterprises, in the never-ending pursuit of competitive advantage, seek to find new ways of using connected technologies to improve business agility and lower operational costs,” Godfrey Chua, directing analyst for M2M and The Internet of Things at Infonetics Research, said in a statement.
Service providers offering cellular M2M communications are particularly well-suited to gain. “For service providers, there are significant and fast-growing opportunities ahead.” Chua said. “Specifically, cellular technologies are playing an increasingly important role in enabling M2M services, comprising the vast majority of WAN wireless M2M connections today, over 220 million, and nearly tripling to just over 630 million connections by 2018.”
While 2G and 3G cellular technologies serve the majority of M2M services, LTE will grow the fastest, Infonetics said.
Aeris Communications offers the most complete set of technology offerings in the industry, including GSM and CDMA for 2G, 3G and full-support for 4G LTE. Aeris deploys these technologies with the Aeris Enterprise Edition - the only “full stack” of M2M/IOT solutions, including cellular connectivity (AerConnect), a connectivity enablement platform (AerPort), and an application enablement platform (AerCloud).
